About Us

Ma nga pakiwaitara e whangai to tatou wairua,
Stories provide the sustenance that feeds our souls,

Audiences of all ages enjoy storytelling, especially when it’s a story feast provided by Soul Food Tellers , Moira Wairama and Tony Hopkins.

For family and child focused audiences they are especially well known for their combined telling of Maori, African and Native American myths and legends. They also tell their own original stories and a range of tales from other traditions.

For adult audiences Moira and Tony have created the highly successful series of Soul Food storytelling shows produced by the Baggage Co-op. These shows have often incorporated the works of other tellers and/or musicians. Their Fringe show, Soul Food 2000, stories for a new millennium, was the first recipient of the Fringe Festival Spoken Word Award.

Both Moira and Tony are members of Nga Kaikorero Purakau o Aotearoa/ the NZ Guild of Storytellers.
