Storytellers Cafe

Wellington Storytellers Cafe is the home of storytelling in the capital.

The Wellington Storytellers Cafe was originally started in a local café in the early 1990’s by well-known teller and facilitator Mary-Alice Arthur.  Today the cafe continues to operate with the support of a collective of local tellers and offers a venue for both new and experienced tellers to practise their craft.

Wellington Storytellers Cafe  is held 7:30-9pm on the first Tuesday of each month at the Wellington Arts Centre/Toi Poneke, 61-69 Abel Smith Street.

As well as a guest performer there is usually an opportunity for short stories to be shared from other tellers.

Stories are aimed at an adult audience and there is a regular email notice that advertises guests and other storytelling events.

The Storytellers Café has an entry charge of $5 which includes coffee and tea.

This is the best $5 entertainment in Wellington.
